One of my most favourite pieces of cookware is my 12 inch cast iron pan. It is so versatile, holds heat well, cooks evenly, and yes it has even become non-stick. I have had it for almost 18 months now and I don’t know how I ever cooked without it. You can fry with it and bake with it and it makes the most amazing pan for cornbread.

You might have noticed that the majority of my recipes don’t use packaged foods and that is because I really like to know exactly what is going into my food and the food I feed my family. I really like basic ingredients that I combine myself rather than trusting what someone else has packaged with God knows what kind of preservative.


In that vein, this month we are giving away a dvd of the movie Food, Inc. I was already fairly careful about ingredients before seeing it, but this movie was truly an eye opener. I have been bugging my husband for a long time to build me a vegetable garden but he kept putting it off year after year. After seeing this movie the first thing he said to me was to go ahead and hire someone to build us our own organic vegetable garden. That garden is going in later this week and I’ll be sharing photos of that with you in an upcoming post – I’m so excited about it!
