I know to some people it may seem kind of hokey, but I love wearing my apron when I cook. If anything I see it as a way to save the millions of trees worth of paper towels that I would otherwise go through from constantly wiping my hands while I cook. Plus the added bonus of protecting your clothes from unwieldy splatters!

So this month, that is what we’re giving away – your very own Williams Sonoma apron! I have had one for years and love it to death. It is made of sturdy cotton twill, is machine washable, has a D-ring loop on the neck strap for easy adjustment, and has waist straps long enough for those of us who are *ahem* a little more well endowed. The colour choice is yours (mine is blue but I would love the red one pictured above!) and I will have it shipped directly to you.
How do you win, you ask? Simple! Comment on this thread, answering the following question:
The giveaway will be open until 10pm on Monday March 15th and the winner will be announced the following morning.
Happy March everyone!

I used to subscribe to cooking light. After years of collecting the magazines, I decided to purge by tearing out the recipes I wanted to try and well, trying them. I began a mission of making ragouts, ragines, pasta dishes and the like. About 3 weeks in, we had tried about 6 of the recipes. All disappointing – primarily ingredient-wise. As we finished dinner, my husband said, “Can we be done with the experiments?” And we were. No offense to Cooking Light – but it was a bit of a disaster.
To most people it might not seem that bad but for my first married Valentine’s Day I went to a bit of trouble to make the perfect meal. My husband and I like Chicken Limone. Let’s just say that it is now commonly referred to as PUCKER TART CHICKEN. What we ended up having to eat that night besides the dessert (I bought) was mashed potatoes and some green peans. The chicken was just way too tart I misread the amount of Lemon. My husband tried to eat it but when I put it in my mouth I quickly got my napkin and spit it back out. It was inedible.
Well, it isn’t MY cooking disaster. It is my wonderful husband’s! When we were first married, we decided to grill out one day. He was making hamburgers and he said that he was going to put bread in the burger meat to keep it moist while it cooks. Well, he misunderstood that sometimes his mom uses BREAD CRUMBS in her burgers. So, he put whole pieces of bread in with the beef and mixed it up. He grilled up the burgers and we set the table for dinner. It smelled really good, and I was anxious to eat. I took ONE bite of the burger and almost gagged. When I bit into it, it was burger meat on the outside with a big BALL of bread in the center of the burger. YUM! It was AWFUL! We still laugh about it to this day!
Mine is actually a simple one. I can’t seem to warm up frozen garlic bread in the broiler. I have now literally set it on fire twice, and burned a third. I’ve recently started buying Walmart’s frozen garlic bread (is this okay for me to announce here on a cooking site? LOL) and it says to cook for 3-5 minutes under the broiler. I bake it at 450 degrees instead to prevent another fire.
I have two
Once, my best friend and i tried to make strawberry pie and the crust came out like a cracker … it was horrible
another time, a different friend and I were trying to make my mom’s mac & cheese and we wound up putting in 8 tablessppons of white pepper instead of 1/8 teaspoon. umm, yeah not good.
I have a nasty habit of not reading the entire recipe through.
And I love a good apron!
I marinated a roast in a lovely bourbon marinade, but forgot to read step #3 where it said to pour off the marinade before cooking. So I put the lid on my roasting pan and put it in the oven. Needless to say, about 30 minutes later it literally “backfired” on me as the bourbon exploded knocking the top of the pan and opening the door to the oven with a big ole KABOOM!!! My then boyfriend, now husband, was very impressed (and scared). But he still married me so I guess it wasn’t that bad?
I’m still not allowed to cook with alcohol.

Hmm…I have to say that my worst disaster involved fire as well. I set dinner on fire twice at my old house. There were several incidents of smoke as well!
I tried to make a chocolate pudding cake in the crock pot yesterday for my 4 yr old’s half birthday. I think there was a combination of something I did wrong along with a bad recipe because it tasted awful and the bottom layer that was supposed to be gooey was actually more like chocolate soup (which wouldn’t be bad if it at least tasted good!). My son was disappointed, but easily cheered up with the promise of brownies today that I will start baking in a minute.
Imagine being at work retreveing a tray of lasagne from the oven, I turn around catch my foot on the rubber mats(on floor for safty)trip.start to fall, first reflex action, chuck lasagne towards sink.It ends up all over the wall ,window, sink cupboards and floor.I go down on my knees HARD, just get my arms in front of me so my face doesnt hit the edge of the shelf ,scream loudly in severe pain…staff come running..gues what? I broke my leg..other than that..Ive never had a bad cooking accident…lol
I had a pot of soup on the burner and went outside to get something. I locked myself out! At the time I was living on the second floor of an apartment and the manager wasn’t around. I finally climbed up balcony’s and tore a screen out of a window to climb in. By that time it was smoking and the smoke alarm was going off!
I attempted to make Austin’s 1st bday cake, thinking it would be super easy [yeah, right]. I baked it in the Wilton Train cake pan and it was out of the oven around 7pm the night before his party. When I tried to ice it later that night, the cake started crumbling apart and crumbs were getting mixed into the icing. It was an absolute disaster and looked like a huge bomb. There was no way I was going to serve that at the party. So, I had to go out the next morning, an hour before the party started and try to find a bday cake at a local bakery. It was pitiful. I accidentally ended up buying one that was too small and we didn’t have enough for everyone.
I’ll never do that again!
What a great giveaway! I don’t own an apron and I’m engaged to be married soon so I would love to win this to have something cook in for my soon to be husband
A cooking disaster would be when I was trying to cook a nice meal for our friends. We were having a double date night dinner and I burnt our meal pretty bad. We had to order pizza!

I would LOVE an apron!! I hope I can win
I have TWO, each include a pan giving way and spilling out all over the oven. One was a pan of sweet potatoes, the other was my turkey. The turkey almost caught the house on fire!
My first and last attempt at making daal. An Indian colleague gave me her recipe and I tried to make it at home. I bought all the different spices and the yellow lentils and … well, let’s just say that each person has their own definition of add “a little” water.
Instead of being the creamy side dish that I remembered from the local Indian take out; after hours of cooking, mine looked like a dry, powdery mix. It made a ton of it too and the worst part is that we had it for dinner (my husband put out a brave face and did not criticize – love you, honey!). The taste was good, but it would crumble off our fork as we tried to eat it and we drank a lot of water!
One night long ago (lol!) I decided to make carribean jerk chicken and used a marinade from the store. I totally forgot to marinade it so I cooked the chicken IN the marinade. It was the NASTIEST thing I have ever tasted! My Husband (bless him) was still trying to eat it when I grabbed his plate, threw it all away and ordered pizza. It was so bad, just thinking about it turns my stomache.
